In 1994 I participated in the new city seal design contest for the city of San Marcos. I was among several artists who were given some recognition for contributing their depiction. The final chosen work is pretty close to what I drew. Drawing was still fairly new to me back then, and the contest specifically stated, “pencil drawings only.” Without anyones knowledge during the contest, they hired a graphic artist to complete the final draft. It was upsetting that they changed the rules once the contest was over. It was nice to atleast receive some recognition by the city and Mayor instead of not recieving anything for my contribution and efforts.
